Methven is easily accessible from the Christchurch International Airport, the South Island’s largest domestic and international airport, and New Zealand’s second largest airport. The airport has a brand new integrated terminal, and as of April 2015, was served by 12 airlines with scheduled services. The airport has direct flights to 18 domestic and 11 international destinations. A total of 900 scheduled domestic and 157 international flights arrive and depart each week.  Methven is the perfect town to spend your first and last night in the South Island.

A popular heli-taxi option is their service to Mt Hutt Ski Area for those who want to be up on the hill in a few minutes, taking in views of Mt Hutt and the Canterbury Plains en route.

Ski shuttle transport services operate daily from Methven (and Christchurch) to Mt Hutt Ski Area during the ski season which runs from June to October. Mountain transport operators provide pick up services from local accommodation and selected points along their journey to Mt Hutt Ski Area. A transport service also operates to other local ski areas in the Canterbury region.

During the ski season Methven Travel operate a free around the town bus service, the Village Cruiser. The service loops around the village every 30 minutes from 5pm to 9pm and clients can hail the bus as required and can be dropped off anywhere along the circuit.

Self-drive is a great way to explore Methven. You’ll have the flexibility to evolve your itinerary as you go along, and the freedom to explore places that are away from the usual tourist trails. Our roads are generally of a very high standard. All main routes are sealed and well signposted; traffic is light.
