Over 130 music students converged on Mount Hutt College last Friday producing the 2016 Country High Schools’ Music Festival. Students from Ellesmere College, Rangiora High, Ashburton College and Lincoln High and Mount Hutt College, from grades 7 – 13, worked in four ensembles: Strings, Choir, Junior Band and Senior Band.
After working through the day on their selected pieces a performance dinner was held in the main hall which raised money for Mount Hutt College Band development.
The last event of this kind happened 4 years ago at the college and with the success of this years performance it might just become an annual event from now on.
Congratulations to all the students involved and to Mount Hutt College Music’s HOD Hugo Zanker and other teachers for organising the event. It’s clear that the future of cultural excellence in country High Schools around here is in good hands.
