Summer Sounds Methven 2016 Header


Summer Sounds Methven is a new charity music concert held in Methven, one hour south of Christchurch in the South Island of New Zealand.

Artists featured in the 2016 event included Eddie Low, The DC Boys, Amelia James, Robbie Giddens and the Brewers, Holly Kimber, FADE, Waynebo, Full House, and Huttchicks.

Food, a bar, activities, and children’s entertainment are available on site.

The event is organised by the Methven Action Committee and proceeds from their concert are given to a local charity; the 2016 recipient was the Methven Care Trust who are developing a new aged care facility for Methven.

  • Eddie Low

    Eddie Low - Summer Sounds Methven

    Eddie Low, the silky smooth country ballad singer, has spent over 40 years touring and entertaining fans.

    Described by his peers as “The Voice in A Million” Eddie Low was appointed a Member of the New Zealand Order of Merit (MNZM) for Services to Music, in the 2006 Queen’s Birthday Honours. He has also received the Country Music Legend Award, and the Benny Award from the Variety Artists Club of New Zealand Inc, the highest honour available for a New Zealand entertainer. He has recorded albums in the United States, Canada, Australia and New Zealand.

    He not only possesses vocal talents, but is a master of an impressive variety of musical instruments, including piano, trumpet, flute, most of the brass instruments, guitar, string bass, violin and piano accordion, making him one of New Zealand’s most versatile entertainers.

  • The DC Boys

    The DC Boys - Summer Sounds Methven
    The DC Boys are a country influenced modern directed trio from the King country.

    The Tiki Kid  – a King Country born and bred musician who enjoys all types of music and loves to entertain people. He reckons he’s the clever one in the group but seem to get jokes played on him a lot, perhaps he’s not clever enough……

    The Reggae Cowboy – Rob was reared on old school Country Classics until he discovered Reggae, resulting in a fresh country sound with a classic Reggae bounce.

    Handsome Mike –  apparently he’s called Handsome Mike because he enjoys the finer points in life. Music decided to be around him since he was a young chappy and he’s so happy that it has stayed in his life.

  • Amelia James

    Amelia James - Summer Sounds Methven
    Amelia James, born in Ashburton, has performed on many stages in New Zealand and Australia. Her talent was known and her path set from the age of 7 after joining her primary schools choir and discovering a love for music and singing. Amelia’s list of awards is long, but to name a few she has won awards at the Southern Alps Music awards, Whitestone Awards, Rockquest Awards, NZ Sun City Awards, Westport Best of the West Awards and won a prestigious music scholarship to attend the CMAA Music Academy in Tamworth Australia.

  • Robbie Giddens and the Brewers

    Robbie Giddens - Summer Sounds Methven
    Robbie Giddens and the Brewers are a well known semi local Trio who play a mixture of Blues Rock and Country.

  • Holly Kimber

    Holly Kimber - Summer Sounds Methven
    Holly Kimber is an ambitious young musician from Hororata. She has been playing guitar since primary school and started singing four years ago. Having danced in competitions since age 4, Holly loves being on stage and entertaining people. She can play anything, anywhere and has a very adaptable voice.

  • FADE

    FADE - Summer Sounds Methven
    FADE are an Acoustic Duo covering classic tracks and original works. FADE are a Father and Daughter Act (Terry & Lauren Beckwith) fresh from the UK.

  • Waynebo

    Waynebo - Summer Sounds Methven

    Waynebo is a new line up formed for the Big Little Theatre show Blood Brothers in September 2015. The band features Ashburtonians Matt Van de Yessell and Chelsea Klever Muir (vocals), Thomas Klever (guitar), and Methvenites Wayne Pannett (keyboards & guitar), Kate Lamparth (bass), and Jacob Keele (drums). The band performs an interesting variety of covers but mainly in the Folk, Country, Rock and Pop genre.

  • Full House

    Full House - Summer Sounds Methven
    Full House is a Mount Hutt College Progressive Rock Band who reached second place in the band category at the South Canterbury Smokefreerockquest final held in Timaru in June 2015. The band is made up of Jessie Jacobs (lead vocals), Jacob Keeley (bass guitar), Sithum Jayatilleke (lead guitar), Jack Mcdonald (keyboard), Sam McDonald (rhythm guitar) and Hamish Hood (drums). Fullhouse play a mixture of original music and covers.

  • Huttchicks

    Hutt Chicks - Summer Sounds Methven

    Chelsea Kever-Muir (pictured above) and Paige Jones are the vocalists in this Mt Hutt college band, the girls are joined by Brooke Sandys on the Bass. The girls perform mostly country music covers with great harmonies.

    Entry donations are accepted at the gate on the day.

  • Venue

    Summer Sounds Methven will be held at the Methven Domain, corner of Methven Chertsey Road & McKerrow Street.

    Free event parking is available, including a dedicated space for buses and campervans.

  • Programme

    The 2016 event will be held on Saturday 20th Feburary.

    Gates will open at 1:30pm, with the concert commencing at 3:00pm.

    The concert will finish at approximately 10:00pm.

    Food, a bar, activities and children’s entertainment will be available on site.
