The Dubliner Mountain Thunder motorcycle street races are coming back to town this Easter, Saturday 15th April with continued support from the Methven community.
The Dubliner have once again committed to be the naming rights event sponsor and have now confirmed their commitment for a further three years until 2019. Gary Manning commented, “we understand that Methven Lions are celebrating their 50th year of service in 2017. The club have been instrumental in the development of the Methven community over the past fifty years. We’re therefore delighted to lend our support to the Dubliner Mountain Thunder Event once again.”
Lions President Richard Watson commented, “the Methven Lions are once again thrilled to have the commitment of The Dubliner as naming rights sponsor, along with the support of all sponsors involved, as without the support of so many businesses in Methven we are unable to commit to bringing this event annually to the streets of our town. It is such a huge part of our overall annual fundraising, thus allowing us to return profits directly back to our community”.
Event co-ordinator, Sue van den Heuvel explained what holding a race like this delivers to the town.
“The event provides many benefits for not only the Lions Club, but also Methven as a whole. Easter weekend would otherwise be a quiet weekend for our town, but this event draws thousands to Methven that would otherwise not come. It also means that the fundraising capacity for the money being bought into the community is not drawing on gate entry sales solely resulting from locals, it is opening the wallets of those further afield. But, the funds, are then re-injected into our community which is satisfying for the Lions and a big component of why they continue to organise the event annually, which at times does create a few challenges logistically! The list of volunteer groups behind the scenes is long and includes many local sports, church, school and service groups, offering a unique opportunity to get involved in helping with set-up and clean-up or food stalls, in return being acknowledged by the Methven Lions by means of receiving a donation for their time and efforts. It always amazes us how you can drive back down the main street that same night, and other than a bit of straw from the bales on the road, you would never know it all took place just a few hours earlier, that’s a really cool feeling knowing that our town makes that happen”.
