With the start of the ski season just around the corner, Mt Hutt is a hive of activity. From resurfacing activity on the access road to completion of wind fences at the summit of the mountain, everywhere you look there are people working feverishly to ready the ski area’s buildings, lifts, road and vehicles for opening day on 9th June.
Over the last six weeks, the Bradfords building team have made Mt Hutt their home – living up on the mountain and spending more or less every waking moment working on our fantastic new toilet block. Electricians, plumbers, plasterers, ventilation specialists and sprinkler system installers have more-or-less completed the fit out – allowing our painters and flooring team to add the finishing touches in the run up to opening day.
A new permanent space for ski patrol staff will also be created at the carpark level by removing part of the old ablutions block.
Ski Area Manager, James McKenzie commented, “our snowmakers have successfully commissioned our new autoguns on Fascination and were once again the first team in NZ to smash out some man-made snow on all main trails last week. They are watching temperatures 24×7 and will be seizing every opportunity to add to the pre-season snow falls on our main trails. We are really thrilled that our world class team of groomer operators are returning for another season – I have no doubt they will be keen to get behind the steering yoke of our brand new PB600 winch cat that has just arrived safely in NZ.
With more wintery temperatures forecast over the coming weeks, we are hoping to see the mountain turn gradually whiter and whiter as our seasonal crew begin to arrive in Methven in preparation for training week. That just leaves me to say, ‘bring on the snow!’ We can’t wait to show you all the improvements we have made over the summer – we think you will be suitably impressed…”
