Methven Racecourse will be playing host to the inaugural Methven High country Fete on November 23rd.
Denise Dixey, Event Coordinator said, “We used to have a wonderful Fete in Mid Canterbury and I thought it would be fun to organise one here in Methven, during Fete season. Inviting Boutique stallholders and well known businesses from all over the South Island, Methven Racecourse is an ideal venue, with great indoor and outdoor areas, fantastic
views and plenty of parking.”
A great range of delicious sweet and savoury food will be available and to wash it all down, fine wines and beers from Straight Eight Estate, The Winemakers Wife, Charees Winery, Wigram Brewery and Methven’s very own Blue Pub. Entertainment is provided, with music, games and a fashion show.
“Jewellery and accessories, homewares, women’s and baby wear, art and crafts, garden and furniture, beauty products, jams, salami and seasonings… that’s Christmas covered, with great gift ideas, cakes and treats.” Said Julie Sergeant, co-organiser of the event.
There really is something for everyone, even the blokes and the adventurous. Mid Canterbury Hyundai are bringing their range of vehicles, check out Drummond & Etheridge’s latest boats and jet skis and Alpine Sports’ water sports and outdoor adventure equipment. Neil Gubby from NewZengland is bringing his archery and clay shooting and Methven Golf Club – One-Shot Golf.
Great raffle prizes will be up for grabs during the day, including two items from Terrace Downs; a one day Golf Package and Lunch for Two at their delicious Sunday Buffet, a photography shoot by Emmily Harmer, Family Dinner and Movie deal from Cinema Paradiso, & The Dubliner, vouchers from SkiTime, Skin Therapy plus much more.
The Methven High Country Fete is hoping to support local charities and organisations through the event, however, there are three main charities who will benefit this year. Methven Care Trust, The Methven Historical Society and Library Committee, and we also have an amazing prize up for tender, with all proceeds going to Methven St John. Jon Harmer co-owner of Mt Hutt Lime has donated a truck of Lime and R&R Spreading has offered to spread it for free within the Mid Canterbury area.
“It is our goal to build the Fete yearly, to support our local organisations, vendors and businesses throughout Canterbury and the wider South Island area,” said Julie, “to attract people to this area, to rediscover or be introduced to the beauty of the landscape, our people and their art, creativity, talent, and our awesome hospitality.”
“We are very grateful to our all our sponsors big and small who are supporting the event, and we couldn’t do it without our helpers either!” said Denise and Julie.
