The Methven Lions club is very pleased to announce that there will be an exciting new aspect to this years Dubliner Mountain Thunder Street Race on Easter Saturday, 26th March.
Event Coordinator Sue van den Heuvel said, “We have worked in conjunction with members of the NZ Classic Sidecars Club based in the central north island, and they will be travelling down for Easter to demonstrate what sidecar racing is all about!”
Sidecars are rarely seen on street racing circuits, especially a tight 1km track like Methven. If they like the experience of riding the circuit, they plan to go back home and tell others in the club and will be signing up for racing next year, creating a new official race class for the event.
The key to sidecar racing apparently is team work, one steering the handle bars and the other using their weight to manipulate the bike to where it needs to go. Very exciting and not a sport for the faint hearted, great to watch!
Don’t forget the fantastic classes that will be raced this year; Classic, Post Classic, Junior Clubman, Buckets, Formula Methven And Super Motards. Practice laps will commence at 9.30am, with racing going throughout the day until 4pm.
See you there !!!
